Reading & Re-Reading October 10, 2011

Filed under: 30 Day Blog Challenge — Sara @ 1:46 pm

A book you could read over and over again and never get sick of.

Confession Time– I haven’t read an actual book for pleasure in ages. I skim through autism books from time to time, read the news 2-3 times a day (I’m a news junkie), and read all sorts of junk online. But to read a book more than once…can’t do it…I already know what happens, why read it again? The ending is still the same, the story doesn’t change, the characters are still the same, it’s like watching a movie over and over– not my thing (however- with kids who watch everything on repeat, and their cartoon channels showing the same 4 episodes over and over I’m getting a little more patient about it).

When I was younger I loved Jane Green novels. I am also a huge fan of what I like to call toilet reading materials- books filled with useless facts and short tidbits of info. I love books filled with useless facts. One of my favorite books was one I found at a book clearance sale, it showed every major invention and how it worked from the past 100 years. Reading is knowledge, I like to read facts.
I still haven’t answered the question though – none of these books have I, nor do I have any desire to, read more than once. If I have to pick a book, I’ll give you two. The first is Fish Eyes – Okay It’s not one I can read over and over again, but rather listen to my son read over and over to me. It’s the first book Ry learned to read on his own. Autism + Mostly Nonverbal + A book he can read = The best book any parent can ever have!! And number two [which is actually the number 1 book] is one that while I admit I’ve never read cover to cover, it never gets old, and is full of lots of good stuff – The Bible .

Highs & Lows

Filed under: 30 Day Blog Challenge — Sara @ 12:56 pm

So, I’m still playing catch-up on the 30 Day Blog Ā Challenge….In my defense real life just keepsĀ interruptingĀ my blogging time – Rude, isn’t it…lol

Anyways, getting back on track – Today’s post topic – Your Highs and Lows of the Past Year

I like to take things one day at a time and I choose not to forget the bad, but deal with it and push it aside, focusing on the good and hanging on to the good memories.

In all honesty, I’ve been staring at this post for a while and I’ve got nothing! My life is wonderful, and while I can’t pinpoint anything specific that’s happened this year (Hey, uneventful is good sometimes) every day has it’s ups & downs and it’s our job to make the best of them all. To find the positive in the negative, to find a high, even in the lowest low, to make every day the best it can be because it could be our last.

So I’ll answer this post topic with a question for you…Do you choose to push the lows aside and focus the highs? Stressing / focusing on the bad won’t change anything, so I say push all the crap aside, find the good, and SMILE.

Mainstream Music October 5, 2011

30 Day Blog Challenge – Day 16: Your Views on Mainstream Music

Yes, sadly Iā€™m still playing catch-up on the 30 Day Blog Challenge…..

What is mainstream music?

Urban Dictionary defines it as, ā€œMusic that’s usually on the radio, Top 40 and is well known to the general public. Usually criticized by fans of the previous mainstream generations, and people who prefer bands and/or genres that aren’t apart of the mainstream popularity of the timeā€ as well as ā€œThe worst music out there. It is usually for people that have low IQ’s, are conformist, and are afraid to explore other music out there.ā€ [http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Mainstream%20Music]

Iā€™m very guilty of jamming out to massive amounts of Top 40 hits in every genre of music. Iā€™m a radio junkie. Iā€™m too cheap to buy albums, and I donā€™t even know where to begin (and Iā€™m kind of lazy) when it comes to finding new, less heard of bands and their music. I have to admit, Iā€™m particularly fond of 90ā€™s music and a lot of the stuff on the radio today makes me smhā€¦which according to Urban Dictionary fits the definitionā€¦lol

If you ask me, most artists who make music would love to make it to the top. Theyā€™d love to be discovered, make and sell tons of records, and make millions.Ā  But that doesnā€™t happen for everyone. Not everyone can be famous and have their songs played on the radio. It sucks that itā€™s so difficult for up and coming artists to get their music heard. Does that mean they have any more or less talent than another….No, not by any means.

That being said, I love musicā€¦all kinds, whether itā€™s on the radio, on MTV, on YouTube, or a local band playing at the coffee shop. I donā€™t however love artists that rely too heavily on the pitch correcting software. Thatā€™s where a lot of todayā€™s more famous artists lose meā€¦Iā€™m not going to name names, but I remember watching a certain performance on one of the MTV award shows one year where the pitch correcting software wasnā€™t on and the unnamed artist had less actual singing talent than I have..which doesnā€™t say much since my kids put their hands over my mouth EVERY TIME I try to sing.

So to sum up —- I donā€™t care if youā€™re playing The Local Show, at a hole in the wall bar, or on National Television, if you have talent I 110% support your right to rock outā€¦.and if you sound like meā€¦remember, ā€˜Professionals get paid to sing so no one has to listen to you or I do itā€™ šŸ˜‰

30 Day Blog Challenge – Day 15 October 4, 2011

15 Interesting Facts About Me

Honestly, Iā€™m not that interestingā€¦letā€™s seeā€¦what can I tell you guys that you might at least find mildly intriguing?

1) I was there when they were tearing down the Berlin Wallā€¦.I was young and the wall was partially down already, but I was there. Somewhere, boxed away, we have pieces of both sides of the wall.

2) For someone who never shuts up once you get to know them, I can be ridiculously shy.

3) While I love my kids more than life itself, I had never planned to have kids. The thought of being a parent never even slightly interested me, instead I wanted a puppy. Funny how life has a way of showing you what you really want.

4) I donā€™t believe everything happens for a reason or for the best. I believe things happen and itā€™s on us to find the good in them.

5) I donā€™t know how to ride a bike. I mean Iā€™d like to think I could if I had to, but I never learned as a kid and as an adult never took the time to learn.

6) As a child I was diagnosed with scoliosis. When my curve finally progressed enough to require surgery I got to be the first patient at the hospital to have the procedure done using a scope.

7) Iā€™m terrified of roller coasters!!! Itā€™s not heights, or the speed, or even the coaster itself. Itā€™s the fear of falling out of the moving ride. You put me on a ride like Jaws at SeaWorld that harnesses you in, Iā€™m good. But the carts with a bar or dinky little seat beltā€¦no way youā€™re getting me on those!

8) I can pinpoint the above fear to two separate occasions where I was scared shitless because even though I was the right height to ride I was too light, so Iā€™d end up standing straight up feeling like I was going to fall over the front of the ride.

9) Funny this one comes after my roller coaster fear ā€“ Iā€™ve always wanted to go skydiving. Someday soon!!! (Iā€™m hoping **Crosses Fingers**)

10) Iā€™m loudā€¦freakishly loudā€¦I donā€™t mean to be, and itā€™s only at the most inopportune times. You know when you mumble something under your breath, or tell your friend ā€˜Hey look over thereā€™ā€¦.those times.

11) You will never convince me a butterfly is anything more than a worm with wingsā€¦.their beauty is lost on me.

12) I was in Times Square for the Millennium.

13) Iā€™m a make-up junkie, yet despite the giant drawers overflowing with products, for my eyes and lips I always tend to go back to to the same colors I’ve used since I first started wearing make-up

  • Clinique ‘Pair of Shadows’ Eye Shadow Duo [Starstruck & Golden Lynx]
  • Clinique ‘Black Honey’ Almost Lipstick (or a shade similar)

Hey, when you find what matches your skin tone stick with it.

14) I love to bake and cook ā€“ only if it will get eaten (which with 3 picky eaters doesnā€™t always happen lol) ā€“ okay this oneā€™s not that interesting, but Iā€™m running out of things to tell youā€¦Iā€™m really kind of boring

15) I love the smell of fresh cut grass

See…I’m not that interesting…but I guess if you’re still reading at least I didn’t bore you too much…Don’t forget – Join me in the 30 Day Blog Challenge – Just click here – http://randomosityblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/30dayblogchallenge.jpg

My earliest memory

I don’t remember…don’t laugh…I have tons of childhood memories, but I have to admit the line from what is a memory, and what is just a memory of a story I’ve been told numerous times, is kind of blurred. Ā I can say, that in all my memories I am surrounded by family and those who loved me.

Somewhere you’d like to move or visit.

Where do I start??? I want to see it all!! I want to experience it all! I want to soak it all in!!

As a kid I was fortunate enough to get to see parts of Europe, and while I was too young to appreciate it at the time, as an adult it makes me want to see everything the world has to offer!

As for moving somewhere new…I’m happy where I am, but I believe home is where ever the family is. So as long as I have my loves it doesn’t matter where I am.

30 Day Blog Challenge – Day 9

I’m playing catch-up again…Go Figure….

If you could have any job in the world what would it be?

Iā€™m a sahm (Stay At Home Mom) and let me tell you it has HUGE perks. Iā€™m a bum every morning after I take the kids to school. I come home, prop up in front of the DVR and catch up on my shows. Itā€™s at least noon before I even attempt productivity most days. And on Mondayā€™s, forget about it, I do NOTHING but recover from the weekend. That being said, there are still days that I want to scream ā€˜I didnā€™t sign up for this, I miss the real world!!ā€™ especially during #SummerVacayChaos Ā #SummerVacayHell

On those days what would I rather be doing? Well in all honesty those days Iā€™d rather be propped up on the beach napping the day away while the kids play on the beach with their dad. But thatā€™s not the post topicā€¦so ADD aside, letā€™s get back on trackā€¦.What do I want to be when I grow upā€¦The answer has changed so many times over the years. When I as little I was going to be an actress/veterinarian/princess, then a fashion designer, then a doctor/teacher, later a lawyer, and then a financial advisor. In the past few years Iā€™ve seriously considered going back to school to be an RN but it hasnā€™t gotten much farther than considering it. The kids schedule is too crazy for both my husband and I to work full-time. Plus, if I did work outside the house, all the momduties I have would still be here, waiting with my name on them at the end of the day. Who would have thought, but the laundry and the cleaning wonā€™t do itself, and dinner doesnā€™t cook itself, the groceries donā€™t buy themselves (Oh the harsh realities of the real world!!). Itā€™s also ridiculously nice to not have to worry about calling in because thereā€™s no sitter to stay with a sick kid (and when one gets sick, it runs through the whole houseā€¦which means at least 3 weeks of sickness floating thru the casa), Iā€™m always available if thereā€™s an issue at school, no need for summer/afterschool daycare ā€“ which is a blessing because daycares and autism donā€™t really go together to well. I get to be there for it allā€¦The Good, The Bad, and The Uglyā€¦and the fun, the funny, the shenanigizing, the meltdowns, the sibling warsā€¦.all of it. Ā Soā€¦.unless my any job in the world comes with a nanny, maid, and no need for a degree, Iā€™m not interestedā€¦.And in all honesty – if I could have any job in the world, even on the days I want to rip my hair it, I AM DOING IT! What a win!!

***I would also like to take a second to say to all the working moms out there ā€“ You are AMAZING!! I donā€™t know if I could juggle it allā€¦.2 Thumbs up to you ladies

30 Day Blog Challenge – Day 5 September 24, 2011

I’m playing catch-up again today…

Your Favorite Comfort Foods and Why:

My comfort foods….not to be confused with favorite foods. We’re talking foods that can almostĀ make it all better, no matter what it is.

#1 – Chocolate

I don’t discriminate when it comes to chocolate…cookies, brownies, bars, cheesecakes, chocolate of the white mocha variety….as long as it’sĀ chocolatey [chocolaty(?)]Ā it will work

#2 – Persian Food

You know those foods you grew up on, the ones no matter how hard you try you’ll never be able to cook as them as good as mom or dad? To me that’s a comfort food, and for me that’s Persian Food. These are some of my favorites, but just as with chocolate, when it comes to Persian Food I do not discriminate šŸ˜‰

That’s it, there are tons of foods I love, and I’d love to eat all Ā the time, but these are my comfort foods. What are yours? Join me in the 30 Day Blog Challenge (The topics list can be found here:Ā http://randomosityblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/30dayblogchallenge.jpgĀ ) to share you answers too.
